Dance & Creative Movement for Preschoolers. This post is by Christine Gora of Kids Music Toys. Children love to move and dance and preschoolers are mostly always active. A great way to direct this movement energy into something rhythmic and musical is with some simple props and a little creativity. So how do you get your little movers and shakers going? Here are a few ideas to get you started. Scarf Play. Scarves really are a dancing must with preschoolers and there are many options available. You can rummage through your wardrobe for silky, lightweight chiffon items that are out of date on the fashion scene but truly in vogue with the babies and toddlers. The secret is to find lightweight and sheer. Alternatively, you can will find a range of colourful, low priced scarves here at Kids Music Toys. To start, make a little game with simple instructions encouraging children to –Hold one corner and wiggle your scarf. Scrunch it into a ball. Hold your scarf by two corners and make it flap like washing on the clothesline. Make it flap like a flag on a flag pole. Make it fly like a kite. Or try more challenging questions such as; Can you make it swim like a little fish? Can you make your scarf fly like a bird or a kite in the sky? Can you scrunch your scarf into a ball and toss it like a snowball? Can you make your scarf float gently to the floor like snowflakes? Ribbons and Streamers. Alternatively, ribbon sticks or wrist ribbons provide a satisfying creative alternative for preschoolers. Here are some simple ribbon movement questions to challenge your child –Can you hold the ribbon in one hand and make a circle? Can you change hands and make a circle with the other hand? Can you make waves? Stripes? Spirals? There is a lovely song I remember from the Playschool years with my own children which you can sing while doing this: Put a stripe (swirl/spiral/etc) over here and a stripe over there. Put a stripe on your ear and a stripe in your hair. Put a lot of little stripes in the air everywhere. It’s a stripey kind of day. Jingle Bell Wristbands. Jingle Bell Wristbands (like these here) are fun when attached to either wrists or ankles, every movement creates a fun jingle sound! You can also hold them and shake without attaching. Perfect for shaking or stomping about to music with a strong, regular beat. Whatever your dancing style, when moving with children your own enthusiasm and encouragement is highly infectious, so get ready to get happy dancing, moving and shaking! Fun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Children having fun playing with snow. Surfers enjoying their sport. Fun is the enjoyment of pleasure, particularly in leisure activities. Fun is an experience — short- term, often unexpected, informal, not cerebral and generally purposeless. It is an enjoyable distraction, diverting the mind and body from any serious task or contributing an extra dimension to it. Although particularly associated with recreation and play, fun may be encountered during work, social functions, and even seemingly mundane activities of daily living. It may often have little to no logical basis, and opinions on whether or not an activity is fun may differ. A distinction between enjoyment and fun is difficult but possible to articulate, fun being a more spontaneous, playful, or active event. There are psychological and physiological implications to the experience of fun. Etymology and usage[edit]The word is associated with sports, high merriment,[1] and amusement. Although its etymology is uncertain, it may be derived from fonne (fool) and fonnen (the one fooling the other).[2] Its meaning in 1. The landlady was going to reply, but was prevented by the peace- making sergeant, sorely to the displeasure of Partridge, who was a great lover of what is called fun, and a great promoter of those harmless quarrels which tend rather to the production of comical than tragical incidents. Henry Fielding, The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling (1. The way the word "fun" is used demonstrates its distinctive elusiveness. Expressions such as "Have fun!" and "That was fun!" indicate that fun is pleasant, personal, and to some extent unpredictable. Expressions such as "I was making fun of myself" convey the sense that fun is something that can be amusing and not to be taken seriously. The adjective "funny" has two meanings which often need to be clarified between a speaker and listener. One meaning is "amusing, jocular, droll" and the other meaning is "odd, quirky, peculiar". These differences indicate the evanescent and experiential nature of fun and the difficulty of distinguishing "fun" from "enjoyment".[5]Fun's evanescence can be seen when an activity regarded as fun becomes goal- oriented. Many physical activities and individual sports are regarded as fun until the participant seeks to win a competition, at which point, much of the fun may disappear as the individual's focus tightens. Surfing is an example. If you are a "mellow soul" (not in a competition or engaging in extreme sport) "once you're riding waves, you're guaranteed to be having .. The pleasure of fun can be seen by the numerous efforts to harness its positive associations. For example, there are many books on serious subjects, about skills such as music, mathematics and languages, normally quite difficult to master, which have "fun" added to the title.[7][8][9]Activities[edit]Many physical activities provide opportunities to play and have fun. Opportunities for fun. Snowballing (Tallahassee 1. Children in a playground fountain (Frankfurt 2. Young adults playing (Chicago 2. Pillow Fight (Warsaw 2. Psychology[edit]. Employment poster about the importance of fun. According to Johan Huizinga, fun is "an absolutely primary category of life, familiar to everybody at a glance right down to the animal level."[1. Psychological studies reveal both the importance of fun and its effect on the perception of time, which is sometimes said to be shortened when one is having fun.[1. As the adage states: "Time flies when you're having fun". It has been suggested that games, toys, and activities perceived as fun are often challenging in some way. When a person is challenged to think consciously, overcome challenge and learn something new, they are more likely to enjoy a new experience and view it as fun. A change from routine activities appears to be at the core of this perception, since people spend much of a typical day engaged in activities that are routine and require limited conscious thinking. Routine information is processed by the brain as a "chunked pattern": "We rarely look at the real world", according to game designer Raph Koster, "we instead recognize something we have chunked, and leave it at that. Here Are The 12 Most Fun Activities You Can Do With Children Amazing. Isaac Saul @Ike. we've compiled 12 of the coolest sensory play activities Citro has put.One might argue that the essence of much of art is in forcing us to see things as they really are rather than as we assume them to be".[1. Since it helps people to relax, fun is sometimes regarded as a "social lubricant", important in adding "to one's pleasure in life" and helping to "act as a buffer against stress".[1. For children, fun is strongly related to play and they have great capacity to extract the fun from it in a spontaneous and inventive way. Play "involves the capacity to have fun - to be able to return, at least for a little while, to never- never land and enjoy it."[1. Physiology[edit]Some scientists have identified areas of the brain associated with the perception of novelty, which are stimulated when faced with "unusual or surprising circumstances". Information is initially received in the hippocampus, the site of long- term memory consolidation, where the brain attempts to match the new information with recognizable patterns stored in long- term memory. When it is unable to do this, the brain releases dopamine, a chemical which stimulates the amygdala, the site of emotion, and creates a pleasurable feeling that is associated with the new memory.[1. In other words, fun is created by stimulating the brain with novelty. In popular culture[edit]In the modern world, fun is sold as a consumer product in the form of games, novelties, television, toys and other amusements. Marxist sociologists such as the Frankfurt School criticise mass- manufactured fun as too calculated and empty to be fully satisfying. Bill Griffith satirises this dysphoria when his cartoon character Zippy the Pinhead asks mechanically, "Are we having fun yet?".[1. See also[edit]References[edit]^Bailey, Nathan (1. We challenge you to find a country that packs more untouched, dramatic and diverse scenery into a smaller space than New Zealand. The light here is different somehow, making the fiords, glaciers, rainforest, volcanoes, beech forests and rugged coastlines crisper, brighter and a bit more intense than you'd ever expect. You'll find yourself surrounded by some of the best scenery on the planet with few signs of civilisation and no one else around. As an independent nation that lies across the Tasman Sea from Australia, New Zealand is home to only four and a half million people. About a third of them reside in Auckland city and the rest are spread out around two main islands, which together are about half the size of California, leaving vast tracts nearly uninhabited. It's no wonder a lot of visitors find it hard to leave! Kiwis are warm, resourceful and as friendly as they come. They'll charm you with their accent, wave as you pass by on a country road and often stop for a chat. With no snakes, land predators like big cats or bears, or any other nasty critters to bite you on the trail, New Zealand is a haven for hikers. We have, however, got plenty of lambs frolicking in the paddocks, Tui birds calling in the forests and fur seals lazing in the sun on the rocky shores. With a very extensive network of hiking and biking trails and almost 1. Luckily, we've spent years 'tramping' (the Kiwi term for hiking) in the mountains, biking the trails and paddling the calm waters to hand pick the best. Some spots, such as the Milford Track, are deservedly world renowned, while other amazing locations are virtually undiscovered. Off the trail, our towns are charming and unique and since Kiwis love their creature comforts, you'll never be too far from a beautifully made cup of coffee. Sweet as!
